The Sarasota-Manatee Section honors our Angel Patrons with a special event every year. Angel Patrons are those members who donate an additional $75 above their annual dues. We have had brunches, lunches, and teas with speakers, musicians, and actors over the course of time. Our Angel Patrons’ theme this year was Angels by the Book. It honors our love for books and their importance in the homes of our Jewish members.
It was hosted mid-morning on April 5th at the lovely home of Joan Bour. We are most grateful to Joan for sharing her home with us. Our speaker was the knowledgeable and delightful Elsie Souza, a long-time special event planner and book club leader at Bookstore1 in Sarasota.
As long as most of us can remember, Jewish women held book clubs. For years, thoughts have been shared, writing styles parsed and food consumed while discussing a book of interest. Authors and books seem to hold a special place in our hearts and minds…from classics to best sellers.
A scrumptious brunch was prepared and planned by our special NCJW Angel Co-chairs, Barbara Berkowitz and Phyllis Dreyfuss; Food Mavens, Marge Ellin and Marilyn Shapo; and Manager Extraordinaire, Marion Marshak. Attendee volunteers interested in preparing some of the food on the menu were recruited and appreciated by everyone!! Dress code was casual for all guests and included angelic wings and blinking halos for our planning committee. Approximately $8,500 was raised to benefit our local programs.
We are looking forward to this year’s upcoming event to be held on April 11, 2018, details to follow.
