Lunch and Learn Chairwoman and Registrar
With education and motivation, NCJW women can initiate change for themselves, their loved ones and even the community! We are proud to note that past Advocacy Lunch and Learn Programs have led to interactive programs on spousal abuse, dating violence, human trafficking and reducing homelessness. The Hippy Program which Hillary Clinton supported for pre-school children also was an NCJW program!
Sarasota-Manatee Section NCJW continues to empower women via our Lunch and Learn programs. We continue to offer small group discussions on relevant issues based on NCJW priorities. Our focus this year is to empower us in assisting our loved ones, families, and friends as we age.
Our first Learn and Lunch will be held on Friday, February 2nd at the Roskamp Institute Clinic located on the Roskamp Campus, 2040 Whitfield Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34243.
The Roskamp Institute is the premiere cognitive and memory institute in the Sarasota and Tampa Bay area.
This Learn and Lunch will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. The Roskamp Institute, Inc., is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity research institute that is dedicated to understanding the causes of, and finding novel therapies for, neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. The Institute has devised a broad range of scientific approaches to understanding the cause of and potential therapies for these disorders with a novel treatment for Alzheimers disease. The institute is currently completing a Phase III trial in Europe.
Some clinical programs are particularly relevant to veterans and military personnel, including Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Gulf War Illness (GWI) and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We have touched upon these issues in some of our past Lunch and Learn programs.
The Center hosts: 1) a fully functioning clinic that provides superior diagnostic and clinical services to dementia patients, and their caregivers; and 2) a clinical trials division. The clinical team consists of experienced specialists in geriatrics, neuropsychology and neuroradiology. Under the guidance of the Institute’s director, Dr. Mullan, the RIMC team is led by Dr. Andrew Keegan, who is a highly experienced Neurologist, with expertise in the assessment of the earliest cognitive symptoms and stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
As part of The Roskamp Institute’s dedication and service to the community of older adults who are at greatest risk for Alzheimer’s disease they provide a complementary memory screen. Find out why a free memory screen is important and how it works.
We will have a tour of the Institute with informational lecture about memory loss, and meet many of the therapists during our tour and interact with them for further information and to answer our questions. We can have up to 50 participants; so feel free to register your spouse/significant other, and friends who are interested in memory disorders. Following the program we will meet at a local restaurant to “lunch”. Further information in January!
As always, pre-registration is necessary. Registration is open when you receive the News and Views. Contact me at email@example.com
Coastal Behavioral Healthcare
Our second Lunch and Learn will be held on Wednesday, March 21st at 1:00 p.m. Further information to follow closer to the date via e-blast and flyer.
We will welcome Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, serving Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee counties.
For more than 40 years, Costal Behavioral Center has been “Caring for Our Community” by providing affordable evidence-based behavioral healthcare services to children, adolescents, adults, seniors and their families who struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues.
While the job is never done, the Coastal Mantra is that every time a family is reunited, a person with a mental illness is well again and returns to work, or a child threatening suicide is saved another step on the path to success is met! It is a celebration every time an individual achieves his or her self-determined goals for health, life, and well-being.
There are 11 Adult services subdivisions and 7 children’s services under the Coastal Umbrella! Learn what these divisions are and how to access appropriate care for those in need of Mental Health Services. Help us to advocate for those in need.
We have asked that we receive an update on Mental Health Legislation in Florida at this meeting. Questions and Answers and exchange of information are always part of our Lunch and Learn programs. Registration: firstname.lastname@example.org
As usual, we will be sending out e-blasts reminding you to register for these amazing programs closer to the dates; all pre-registrations are welcome. We ask that if you find you are unable to attend, cancellation is requested to make room for others!
Looking forward to hearing from you.
